Random thoughts about tattoos thanks to Birdman...

| Posted in , , | Posted on 12/02/2009

I mean seriously. I know Birdman aka Baby and Weezy F. Baby (his adopted son, they say)... loves getting inked up. I know that by now he prolly ran out of space to put a new one. But this has got to be the most ridiculous tattoo I have ever seen. First off, he already had this Red Star tatted on his neck over his Adam's apple. He must have forgot, so where else to put it so he never forgets but on top of his brain. I thought the Oil Rig one he got was horrible, but damn he went and topped it, literally.

All pics are clickable for extra info!

Now I always wanted sleeves. I wanted to do my right arm covered in Bahamian artwork and stuff related to my home country (the flag, ocean, even a flamingo) and my left arm to my 2nd home, United States (flag, highway signs, guns, cars etc). But after seeing Baby and Wayne, I never go... cuz if its addicting like everyone says it is. I don't want to even go there.

Kalik likes these styles.

A long shopping weekend...

| Posted in | Posted on 11/30/2009

I had family in town this weekend. Even with multiple computers and my cellphone, I couldn't get online much to blog, tweet, use facebook or browse the numerous forums & news sites I read. Will go back and see if I missed anything, that I find interesting.

What a long sale weekend it was, and the amount of driving I did, and walking around supercenters and malls were crazy. My brother came in from Nassau, Bahamas, to shop because everything there is way more expensive. It was good having my bro here for the weekend. My legs are killing me though, like back in high school after running track (I need a massage). I didn't get to watch "Ninja Assassin", so I will this week.

Also it's Cyber Monday today, so if you aren't done shopping (like myself). We will be browsing/shopping at work. I get to work at 10am today, and will be updating my Hustleman Deals throughout the day as I search for deals for myself.

Just a Kalik Thought...

Apple / Itunes updating is a bitch...

I always thought Apple products were supposed to be easier.
This is the 3rd issue I've had with my Mac. Updating everything again...

Nothing to say really. This covers it.

Classic Atari games online...

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/24/2009

Dunno about your family, but my cousins (and my bro later on) got their Atari 2600 back in like 82-83, and that changed my life. I was always the one of the youngest so I didn't get much game time in. Classics like Adventure, Combat, Asteroids, Galaga, Pac-Man... the list can go on.

Atari has a few games online and playable so since it's slow at work, I'm gonna mash up some Adventure and listen to some Curren$y. (the soundtracks to these games are crap). Games currently available are Asteroids, Battlezone, Crystal Castles and Lunar Lander. More games are to be added in the near future.

NES / SNES Duo Console..

If you are like me, you probably have 75-100 old games in boxes or laying around still being played from the 80's NES or early 90's SNES consoles. My sons and I still play the old games from time to time. We buy carts from yard sales and flea markets for maybe $2-$4 depending on what game it is. Come to think of it I still need a few games I am missing.. Contra, Super Metroid, Metal Gear 2 are some off the top of my head.

The Retro Duo is a Nintendo NES and SNES in one device. It allows you to play either the older SNES games or even older NES games and can get you started into retro Nintendo gaming, if you don't want to use an emulator and play on your PC. It's one of the few things from my childhood I still enjoy. Cart games > CD/DVD games, in my opinion. They still work after 20 years, don't get scratched. (But you have to blow that dust off)

Ninja Assassin...

Most people are looking forward to Thanksgiving to see family and friends, eat, football and Black Friday shopping. All of that is well, but this year if you are into Karate / Kung-Fu / Ninja flicks like Kalik is, then you have to stop and take 2 hours and go see Ninja Assassin.

Growing up in the Bahamas, when I was a kid on Nassau we only had movie theatre, and no it didn't have 20 screens like the AMC and Muvico's stateside. It literally only had 1 screen. Big ups to Shirley Street Theatre and my friends aunt that would get us in free, and my uncle who owned a bar across the street that would give us sodas and chips to sneak in. Anyways, sometimes (often) they would get in Kung Fu movies so I grew up watching these and loving em. My favorite was a Scorpion style classic, and my boss at work "Mow" actually hooked me up and gave it to me last year.

Also spent many days watching Bruce Lee flicks by Duff's (Mr Steez - Bahamian rapper) house when I was a kid... Man I remember that Bruce Lee vs Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joint... classic!

This year Ninja Assassin is being released stateside, it is an American made movie, not from the far east. Not sure on the plot but really I don't care. Some dude disobeys/dishonors his clan, and the clan is out to kill him and he's a one man army (ninja) taking them on. Simple, but hey it works.

Must see movie, this week...

Is it Better to Be Mixed Race?

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/21/2009

Kalik is "mixed race", but raised black and goes by black (don't get it twisted), also my kids are mixed.. I found this 46-minute video interesting..

"Geneticist Aarathi Prasad considers the theory that mixed-race humans are blessed with innate advantages, something farmers recognise in plants and animals as hybrid vigour. This idea is regarded as repellent by both dingbat racists and, as Prasad discovers, by many mixed-race people who object to being defined by their skin colour.. Before 1967, it was illegal in 16 American states for a black person and white person to marry. Right wing groups on both sides of the Atlantic continue to espouse that the mixing of races is destructive and against some kind of natural order. Aarathi Prasad, a geneticist and mother of a mixed race child, sets out to challenge the ideas of racial purity and examines provocative claims that there are in fact biological advantages to being mixed race."

Mad Cobra - Crimology (Israel Riddim) Vybz Kartel Diss

Big up my bro Tico! My first ever legal albums I ever owned was Mad Cobra (Girl Flex)and Naughty By Nature (OPP). I got them on my 12th birthday. Before that all I owned were maxwell bootlegs tape from The Hit Spot (local shop in Nassau, Bahamas).

When I heard this earlier I thought of my big bro.

Plus the diss track goes hard, can't wait to here the answer back!

Was browsing T-Shirt Hell this morning (Yes some of the shirts are very offensive), but it is comedy. I also wonder  who has the cahones to wear some of these? Anyway, I found a shirt for all my Bahamians that love Junkanoo & Americans that love to make that ka-lik, ka-lik sound at baseball games. No matter which of the two you are, you need this tee "COWBELL HERO!"

Do you enjoy shaking the cowbells and enjoying a few beers? Which Cowbell Hero are you?

Baseball Guy?

18 minutes too late...

I have been pestering my nearest skateshop "Westside" for awhile now about the RESN "Gucci" Nike Dunks. Today they released and I worked late til 6:30pm due to the wine from last night (can this Mon. get any worse). It was raining also on the way from the blow back from that Tropical Storm that is hitting the panhandle of Florida. I get home check my bookmarks, and realize the dunks are in...

I round my 2 boys up, hey its a skate shop, my sons will enjoy it. I think they close at 9pm. We arrive at 8:17pm... but in the window is the CLOSED sign (18 mins late). I hope I can get my size tomorrow.

For anyone that isn't following the release of these shoes. A few years back Nike released samples of a Gucci inspired colorway dunk with black denim, green and red leather. The sneaker was never released and samples (and bootleg Chinese versions) USED to go as high as $1,000 on Ebay, and reseller sites like "Flight Club". I guess Nike finally got clearance to release them. The only difference is the denim is neatly trimmed, unlike the sample that had rough edged denim.

A week ago I posted how you could design your own colorway on NikeID if you missed the DJ Clark Kent "Gucci" inspired dunks, or you didn't want to wait for these.

They actually cost less than the NikeID's (which are $135), they only cost $108 local. Honestly the value of these will only go up, if you keep em deadstock. ($250 already on ebay)

I already bought a Sneaktip shirt from DrJays, and a pair of Fully Laced laces and lace locks from Karmaloop. Use Karmaloop Repcode Kalik see sponsors in sidebar --->

Wish me luck.

Obama & Drake, what do they have in common?

| Posted in , | Posted on 11/09/2009

I have been thinking about this for sometime and when I'm a lil buzzed I keep comparing the two. Do any of you ever think of these 2 people as running in the same lanes. Yes this is parody and jokes...

• White mother / Black father. (both fathers didn't stay in the picture)
• Raised around more of his mothers family than his fathers. But accepted by the black community as well. "The Black delegate accepts high yella Drake!"
• Became known to the public before they even signed a deal (Obama was a new senator and his speech and the 2204 DNC got him noticed / Drizzy a lil mixtape actor turned rapper) both got noticed for great wordplay skills. Obama has speechwriters, Drake has ghostwriters.
• No disrespect to what Obama has achieved. But some people think they are over-rated and society gives them too much credit. (Obama's nobel peace prize / Drakes being able to perform at an award show without even having an album).
• Obama healthcare reform / Drake always injuring himself.

Carry-On...

(I'm mixed-raced / mulatto / Light-skinneded / hi-yella myself, its jokes people. But seriously I'm just Black. One drop baby!)

Edit ----- Speaking of Obama, the site Zuka Online (whatever that is) stole one of my parody Obama images from the hiphop site SOHH. Look in the upper left of and you will see "Kalik Presents.." this was a Jay-Z album cover I modified with Obama on it, instead.

Bo Jackson's Air Trainer 34's (Minus the 34)...

| Posted in , , | Posted on 11/06/2009

Bo Jackson Air Trainer SC Black/Grey are arriving this week in Footlockers around the country. Check your mall, and most likely you can grab a pair. These are a regular release not limited or anything.

I owned the original pair of these "The 34's" were on the back heel where the Nike is now. I had bought them in 7th grade (summer of 91 I think) and kept em in clean condition for 3-4 years. One of my homies borrowed em to wear to a party. The next day, bright and early his lil bro, wore my Bo's to mow the lawn. They got pretty messed up from wet grass staining them green. I never even took em back.. I just said keep em and was disgusted. I always missed them, so I am buying again.

Thanks Chris, for ruining my 1st pair of Nikes that I bought.

Knowing is 1/2 the Battle!

Every 4pm afterschool in the 80's, during the Regan Era. When USA was Good, and Russia was Evil, and during the "Say No To Drugs", us kids could enjoy violence on TV...

If you lived in the Islands like me, and watched it all fuzzy on Antenna (we didn't have satellite), you know that feeling you got when the theme song started...

Look at that picture below.

What ’80s TV cartoon lover wouldn’t want that set as he (or she, I suppose) ages sadly into nerdy middle age?

It’s everything that was good and right about after-school television during the Reagan era. It was good battling evil with weapons that never hit anybody and exploding vehicles that always ejected their passengers before they were harmed. Ahhh action, violence ... but hey nobody will die. < edit: I read the  GI Joe comic books and people were dieing in that..... oh boy! >

The G.I. Joe Complete Series DVD Set from Shout Factory hits stores on Nov. 11, though it’s available via pre-order online now. For just $145, you get 17 DVDs including all 95 episodes of the TV series. Special features include eight new retrospective featurettes, G.I. Joe’s original 1963 Toy Fair presentation, the “Knowing Is Half the Battle” PSAs, a printable episode script and a G.I. Joe dog-tag-style flash drive.

To top it off this won't leave you disappointed like the live action movie did (I fell asleep watching it), I will watch the DVD again to see if I missed anything.

Everybody likes swingers…

Everybody likes swingers… Nope I don't mean husbands and wives that go out and swap partners for a night of fun.

I meant crazy dudes swinging thru jungles on vines like Tarzan, by a whip Indiana Jones, webs like Spidey... but one of my faves is a guy with a mechanical arm, and a big gun. Most gamers from the 80's played it Bionic Commando I still own my copy, it also was also the first game I "turned over" (Bahamian slang for beating a game), beat, completed or finished, whichever way you prefer to say it.

My bro just sent me a link to part 4 of the series, I think its part 4, does it matter? May buy a console again... been fending off my game addiction. Will tie a belt around my arm, and try swinging from a tree later... Better, I'll have my sons try.

Bought a $10 scratch off - Monopoly

If you go online to your lottery for your state, you can see the odds. The more you pay $10 / $20 tickets the better your odds. So like roulette and blackjack have good odds in a casino, you should play the higher tickets... simple really. Odds on most $20 tickets are 1 in 3. 33% not shabby...

Did I win or did I lose? I broke even.. I won $10.

When I went to check the Odds, I realized they have one $30 scratch off.... hmmmm anyone want to go in with me?

And of course NEVER EVER play the $1 tickets.... If you get them for birthday or christmas. Tell the friend keep it and give you the $1. Then proceed to buy a Double Cheeseburger from Burger King. Have it your way!

Odds on the $30 ticket is 1 in 2.43

Odds On Most $20 Tickets are 1 in 2.95

Odds On Most $10 Tickets are 1 in 3.19

Today I left for work early, which is rare. Me being from the islands... I dunno man. I leave for work at the exact minute everyday..knowing I need a blessing from GOD to arrive on time. I know I need 45 minutes with no rain, accidents, no more than 3 red lights etc, for me to make it. Today I left at 6:45...

I was enjoying my morning drive.. no stress. A funny talk show on. Messing on the phone (not safe I know). When I saw a car broken down at one of the major corporate centers near work. In this part of town, you have 2-3 major corporations that share these centers. Unlike back-home where a business is stand-alone... I drove pass him and parked my car. Hopped out and ran back to help him push his car. He was going to cause a hell of a backup because this area has many businesses.

First thing I notice is 3 more guys came to help, so I told homie to hop in and steer, instead of pushing and steering because he was drifting into the next lane. Then I noticed it was a Kia... OMG don't ever buy a Korean car... We keep pushing and a few ladies from work drove by. They cheered at me.. AWWwwww

Long story short, after we push him a block down the road into a parking area. He just hops on the phone and calls someone. No thanks to anyone.

I check my watch... I'm still going to be early. So I'm happy, and would help him again.

Island state of mind!
